Do you remember the feeling of waking up on Christmas morning, running to the tree to see what Santa had left for you? Maybe it was a bike, or a new dollhouse. Whatever it was, you were overjoyed with your new gift. As we got older, the gifts got bigger—a car, a trip to Europe, a piece of jewelry. I wanted to create a scent that, regardless of how we spent our holiday and what gifts we received, transported you to the feeling of the holiday season.
Our inspiration for the scent
When raising a family the holiday season can be one of the most hectic times of year. The panic to find just the right gifts for loved ones and doing your absolute best to ensure your children get what’s on their list. Aside from the normal chaos of the holiday season I discussed with my children what some of their favorite memories were. Sometimes as parents we can get caught up in making sure that we’re creating an environment that brings excitement and joy that we can forget the little things that actually make the season special. Those little things (and memories) are what we used to design this year's holiday scent.
The notes
Top Note: Cranberry, Cinnamon
One of my fondest memories of the holidays is how much my Father loves Cranberry sauce. Regardless of season whenever I smell cranberry it makes me think of cranberry sauce and thus the holiday season and my Father. Family is such an important part of the holiday this scent had to be included.
Similarly, though I didn’t grow up drinking holiday cider I liked to make it for my children when they were younger. The smell of cinnamon in the cider or sprinkled on top of your favorite eggnog (spiked or not) was always the first sign that it was time to slow down and settle into the holiday season.
Pairing both cranberry and cinnamon brings these fond memories to mind and adds a complexity to our base and mid notes.
Mid Note: Mistletoe
My earliest memories of mistletoe are of watching old movies with my family as a child and covering up my eyes when two lovers kissed beneath it. And then, as a young woman, experiencing the sweetness of a new love during the holiday season. Regardless of how you’ve experienced mistletoe it brings feelings of love with it so it made all the sense in the world to include this lovely scent in our fragrance design.
Base Note: Pine
What would a holiday fragrance be without pine! While I dislike the clean up of a real Christmas tree the scent that fills your home and heart far outweighs the trouble of it. I love how rich and earthy the smell of pine is and knew that it was the perfect base note to carry the fragrance.
